Administrator of corrections with the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department is Cpt. Melba Huffman.

Officer Huffman is a lifelong resident of Rhea County with years of experience in corrections going back to 1998. She attended Dayton City School and is a graduate of Rhea County High School. Officer Huffman began her career with the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department in 1994 with the Rhea County Juvenile Detention Center as a corrections officer.

She then transferred to the Rhea County Jail and was eventually promoted to Jail Lieutenant in 1998 serving as the Chief Corrections Officer.

Officer Huffman was honored to serve as the first-ever female Chief Corrections officer in Rhea County as the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Rhea County Jail in 2009.
