It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Morgan County Sheriff Wayne Potter; a devoted public servant, loving family man, and pillar of the community. After a courageous battle with cancer, Sheriff Potter is now resting peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication, unshakeable strength, and a profound impact on the lives of those he served. Sheriff Potter was a dedicated Christian and God-fearing man, saved by grace and lived in the peace of knowing his eternal resting place was in a perfect heaven. Morgan County Sheriff Wayne Potter reached his heavenly destination early Tuesday morning February 18, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Over the past several months, Sheriff Potter fought a courageous fight with the same bravery, resilience, and determination that defined his remarkable life. His strong will, unrelenting work ethic, and steadfast commitment to his family, friends, and community inspired countless individuals and earned him the deepest respect and admiration.
As Sheriff of Morgan County with nearly 30 years of service in law enforcement, Wayne Potter embodied the very essence of public service. His tireless efforts to protect, serve, and uplift the citizens of Morgan County were a testament to his selfless devotion to duty and his unwavering passion for justice and service.
To his family, Sheriff Potter was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose love, guidance, and support enriched their lives beyond measure. To his friends, staff and colleagues, he was a trusted ally, a loyal companion, and a shining example of integrity, compassion, and leadership.
As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary man and servant, we take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy will endure, inspiring future generations to follow in his footsteps.
