Food City in Dayton donated 20 gift cards to the tune of $1,000 in support of Rhea County seniors through Sheriff Mike Neal’s Senior Citizens Awareness Network (SCAN). The food will be distributed to seniors struggling to choose between food and medicine.
“This is a big program that Food City supports,” says Jane Draper who oversees the Dayton Food City. “We really appreciate getting to help the community and those in need.”
SCAN Coordinator Lee Miller delivers anywhere from 25 to 30 sacks of food each month to elderly citizens who are mostly on their own.
“This is one of the greatest things that can happen to our SCAN program,” insists Miller who knows the food will go where it’s needed.
“If we didn’t have the stores and businesses’ support we couldn’t even do the program. It has a lot to do with the success of the program,” says Sheriff Mike Neal who started the program in 2002 to help Rhea County seniors in need.
